She was wearing a simple pair of jeans and a plain white shirt. Her hands were full of books. Her face was flushed and pink. As Lauren struggled with the pile on her chest, Celnor looked at her cautiously from behind a book.Lauren had pink silky cheeks and Celnor found herself staring. It could have been anyone- but Celnor was not interested with anyone. She was interested in a pretty girl who could barely keep up with the weight of her passion for reading. She was interested in what she was looking at right now.Celnor closed her book and started packing her things. She hurried to be in line with the girl who walked the halls with her tired sighs. Soon, she was in front of Lauren.“Is that for some summer reading?” Celnor asked, trying some small talk. Lauren, surprised, tipped to her side and the books from her hold started falling one by one.Lauren started talking and the tone of her voice was hurt and annoyed. There was a warm wind from her lips. The hot wind touched Celnor’s mouth as she helped Lauren pick up the mess and their faces were close to each other. Nervous at the closeness, Celnor quickly said, “Sorry.”They stared at each other for a while, unable to respond to the moment while their hands busily took each book back in their place. They both felt helpless for a moment.“Let me help you carry them,” Celnor said after a while.“I’m fine. Just put those ones you have on top of the pile,” she said, and her mouth pointed to the swell of books on top of her chest.“No, I will carry them for you,” Celnor said. Lauren smirked but did not say another more.Celnor wanted to try another attempt for a conversation but her tongue was suddenly in a knot. She quietly followed Lauren until they both reached the counter and the librarian started talking- she and Lauren exchanged words and then, Lauren was free to take home the pile of books. Lauren beckoned to Celnor to come nearer and Celnor set the pile on top of the counter.Warning: This 4,000+ word story is for Mature Audiences Only
